Madison Reed’s Amy Errett Named to Entrepreneur’s 100 Powerful Women

Errett recognized for leadership during a pandemic

Oct 6, 2020
SAN FRANCISCO –October 6, 2020--- Entrepreneur magazine today named Amy Errett, CEO and founder of Madison Reed, to its second annual list of 100 Powerful Women, which recognizes leaders driving change and impacting the landscape of the business world.

“I am deeply honored to be among this group of leaders who---especially during this moment--- are redefining how we think about impact in business,” said Errett, who founded San Francisco-based Madison Reed six years ago. “Each of these women has navigated a year like no other--- and showed us the best of business; the best of ourselves.”

In announcing the 100 Powerful Women, the editors of Entrepreneur said, “there's one common thread that unites the trailblazing women on this list, they know that their work can help make our world a better, safer, healthier, and more equal place.”

The Entrepreneur recognition for Madison Reed and Errett comes during a period of high growth for the brand. During the peak of shelter-in-place and the temporary closures of its Color Bars, Errett led the company through a critical pivot. Seeing the start of what would be a 12X surge in demand, she transitioned virtually all of the brand’s “behind the chair” colorists to roles in customer service. There were no layoffs.

Following strict Covid protocols, the company has begun reopening its unique concept Color Bars across the country-- in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area and Texas, and added new locations in greater Atlanta, in the Washington, D.C. area, King of Prussia and, just last week, in the Town Center at Boca Raton, FL. All of this comes as the brand entered the men’s hair color category for the first time and introduced an all-new product line: Color Therapy Depositing Hair Masks.

“We are so humbled that so many have chosen us during this time,” Errett said. “We understand how fortunate we’ve been and with that good fortune comes the responsibility to double our commitment to driving change for the better.”

In reflecting on the lessons from her past that helped her navigate 2020, Errett told Entrepreneur she learned very early in her career that working to earn the trust and respect of her team is not only the first thing, it’s everything. “Invest in people and the extraordinary will happen,” Errett said.
